    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • There were mixed feelings during my placement. I thoroughly enjoyed college but when it came to busy season, there definitely was a busy season!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was really made to feel welcome from the onset especially by my buddy whom regularly kept in touch with me during the year.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • E&Y arranged for us to have a counsellor. They were really helpful when we came across any difficulties with our clients.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • With reference to busy season, this is when things kick off and the hours worked do not follow a regular pattern!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a high level of responsibility and was encouraged to take up more.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Microsoft Excel skills were extremely beneficial. In addition I feel that my perseverance has improved due to the complexities experienced on working on some clients.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I really liked the office as they had so much to offer. The open plan layout made it very sociable but suitable to work.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My name was initially entered wrong into the system but this was shortly rectified! Other than this minor incident everything was fantastic.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested in paying for our college tuition and exams as well as providing numerous socials and training throughout the year.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Based on your feedback and your review, the firm makes a decision as to whether you are offered a graduate position when you come back from university. In my case, I was offered a graduate position straight away.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was only one other placement student in my department but initially the firm provided events where we met all the other students. In short, there was definitely a good social scene!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I set up camp in Canary wharf which is not the cheapest place to live. The area was fantastic however!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was great. There was always something to do and I loved just roaming around central London and discovering new places.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many sports opportunities and socials involving my department which I was able to get involved with during my year there.
