The Role
I thought the week was a success. Firstly, I really enjoyed how UBS introduced us to each division in the investment bank. I thought it was really good to see this and differentiate the departments. Also I really enjoyed the activities, the prizes on offer really kept everyone going and it makes them stand out.
The tutors were pleasant and friendly and seemed really enthusiastic during the week which was endearing.
We were given guidance on how we should prepare for our interviews and they specifically mentioned which competencies would be assessed.
Each day had its own schedule and we were very busy overall. Days comprised of presentations, activities and tours of the divisions. We were given adequate breaks.
This was not provided as this was a Spring Week. However, there was the opportunity to lead the group during the team exercises.
I can wholeheartedly say that I know more about the different areas within the bank than I did previously.
The Company
The atmosphere initially was great but after we found out that we were being assessed in terms of conversion onto the graduate scheme, it instilled a competitive air around the office.
The organisers have done a relatively good job although we did not run to schedule on the majority of the days. This didn't matter as such as we would often have evening activities such as networking events organised for us.
The company provided all expenses during the Spring Week which I was truly grateful for. In addition they also provided excellent speakers and did exactly what they set out to on their website. I was extremely impressed.
Company Parties/Events
Shortly after the week a number of students were called up for an interview which would determine whether you obtained a place on the graduate scheme. Unfortunately, I was not successful.
The Culture
After office hours the students were given the chance to relax and get to know one another and my bunch were very social. It made the next few days easier as it was easier to communicate once we actually knew something about the individual.
All expenses were paid for by UBS including accommodation.
I know from studying in London that the nightlife is one of the hallmarks of Central London. We did not get the opportunity to experience this as a spring week group due to the evening activities and prompt morning starts.
Aside from the networking dinner events there were no such activities.
