The Role
My year out was an enjoyable experience as I got to learn a great deal regarding how businesses work through working within audit.
The nature of audit means that you are regularly working with different people in teams. I got along with some better than others but on the whole I felt that I was valued and respected despite being a business placement student.
On each engagement I was working directly for a senior whom would give me support with my work. My mentor took the role of a coach and oversaw my development whilst I was at KPMG.
I was usually very busy. More so during busy season at the start of the year.
Towards the tail end of the placement, I was given much more responsibility as I had a few exams under my belt and experience from working on numerous clients.
I will take forward the softer skills such as communication and teaming which I have acquired during the year.
The Company
Generally the atmosphere was great. It never felt tense whilst I was there.
Overall, the placement was very well organised. I did not hear too much from HR after I started but I guess that was because I was treated like a normal employee.
The company paid for my training and also my exams. I felt this was a significant investment and I suspect one which they hope will help me to decide to return after my final year at university.

Company Parties/Events
Future prospects are good as they aim to keep the majority of the business placement students as they are familiar with the workings of the firm.
The Culture
The social scene was great and I got to know the majority of the other placement students including a handful of graduates.
With the offices in London, living and socialising did not come cheap.
From my university experience, the nightlife in London is one of the best around.
There were a number of activities to take part in outside of work, the one that caught my eye was playing on the football team!
