The Role
As it was a real job role I had lots of interesting work and the people around me were more than happy to help if I had a query.
Everyone was lovely and made coming into work enjoyable.
My manager was always happy to help when I needed support and was happy to let me go on courses for areas I felt I needed to improve on such as Excel.
The first few months could be quite slow at times however after this I established my workload and could also find extra things to work on.
Some of my tasks came with a lot of responsibility as the work needed to be sent around the whole business including the managing director.
Doing a placement at Screwfix has taught me lessons that are useful not just for the working environment. However I've also learn that skills like networking etc are vital.
The Company
Very fun and chatty.
It took a while for me to be notified I'd been successful at getting the placement but after this everything was very smooth.
In the first few months I went on an Excel course and presentation skills. They let you know of any upcoming training every Wednesday and anyone can sign up to this.
Subsidised Canteen
Above 25 days holiday
With interesting work and an enjoyable working environment it would be good to try and advance with Screwfix after university.
The Culture
There were not many other placement students and we were all rather busy outside of work, also there is a limited social scene in Yeovil. However it depends on how much effort each student are willing to put it.
The cost of living was relatively cheap and socialising costs were average.
Not much choice, Bristol is about an hour away for those who are willing to travel for a night out.
I did have many opportunities apart from drinks with colleagues occasionally, however I know other placement students got involved with football teams.
