The Role
I really enjoyed my placement - lots of varied work, great support and a welcoming enviornment really made it an excellent experience.
I felt that the work I did was valued and really tangibly contributed to the matters my team was working on.
Support from your principal is excellent thoughout the scheme, as is that of your trainee buddy for any silly questions and someone who understands what it is like to be new! The HR staff also provide excellent support for any other questions and issues you may have.
This did fluctuate a little - some days were a bit more quiet and others a bit more busy, but the longer you are on placement, the better you become at asking for work and identifying any gaps you may have. The internship project and interview preparation will keep you occupied in any down-time you might have.
Mixed levels, depending on the tasks I was completing, however generally I was given the responsibility to manage some tasks and my overall work levels, which I enjoyed.
The Company
Very firendly - they do work hard, but people have time to have a chat and a laugh during the day.
The program was really very well organised, with great support by the HR staff.
Lots of feedback was provided on organised activities, including a negotation exercise and a mock client pitch, in addition to feedback given by your principals on your performance. Seminars were also run on all the areas in the firm to increase general knowledge. The teams I was in encouraged me to attend training session being run within the department as well, which were great.

Very appealing - the firm is a really great environment I could see myself working in.
The Culture
Yes - everyone got on with each other very well, and enjoyed going out in the evenings and on weekend when there were no organised activities planned.
The cost of living in London is generally high, but Linklaters helped to offset these costs. Coupled with the organised events, it is possible to enjoy yourself without blowing your budget!
My teams were great at involving me in social activities, and I had the chance to participate in the firms' community investment program which I really enjoyed.
