    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It is a very friendly atmosphere with great staff who are approachable and supportive. The role is varied and I was always made to feel part of the team.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I am always given feedback on my work which is really helpful. I then have the opportunity to adapt and improve my skills, whilst in the corporate environment.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager is always approachable and supportive. I am always encouraged to go on extra training sessions for my benefit, and I can ask for assistance when I feel it's needed.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was always something to do within the team, or a project/initiative to work on. Some periods were busier than others, but that is expected in every job role. If I had capacity in my working day, I was always offered further work.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responsibility for a number of various projects. Being new to a corporate environment was quite daunting at first, but the more I was given responsibility for, the more my confidence grew. I was responsible for the running of the client feedback programme amongst other things, but could always ask for assistance when it was needed.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel from having worked in a friendly corporate environment, I am able to transfer those skills to my degree studies. Dealing with senior staff has taught me to write in a commercial manner and tailor to my audience.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • All business development teams within the office communicate with each other and are extremely friendly. Due to the nature of the environment, it is generally a quiet office. However, this worked well for me as this is how I work best.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was extremely organised; the induction training was excellent, and whilst getting to grips with the software people were always around to answer questions.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Norton Rose have an excellent learning and development team who publish a training calendar on a regular basis. I was encouraged to go on most of the sessions including- effective time management, writing effective emails and managing upwards. These were extremely beneficial.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The employment prospects within the firm are good, however the key client team is relatively small. Therefore, a job within this team may not be available on a regular basis. There are good job opportunities within other areas of the firm, which I will explore.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Socialising was good within the business development department. There were regular lunches out with many colleagues and occasional drinks at the local bar. Christmas events were enjoyable amongst everyone, and I built a really good relationship with the other placement student in the events and sponsorship department.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's London! However there is a local Tesco and M&S near the office.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • We tended to opt for the local bars and pubs for drinks and lunches, but not so much on late nights out. There is always somewhere to go for drinks after work with a good atmosphere.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Norton Rose has many clubs - pretty much for everything! With enough interest you will also be able to set one up yourself. The opportunities are endless!
