The Role
I thought Ernst and Young was an outstanding firm to work for and all the team members were extremely helpful and friendly. The career prospects and developments within the firm were instantly recognisable.
They instantly made me feel part of the team and invited me to join in social events before my placement even started which made joining the team a lot easier and more comfortable. Everyone was also very willing to let me shadow them and provide me with tasks that a graduate would undertake.
Management were very accessable and easy to talk to. Ernst and Young have an instant messenger online which meant it was easy to talk to any team member even if they were in different locations.
The majority of days I was kept busy with tasks a graduate would undertake. There were times when no work was available for me but I would be given web-based learning to keep myself busy.
I felt I was given a very adequate level of responsibility and as I progressed in my placement I found I was given a lot more as I became more confident in the role.
I managed to gain a valuable insight into a real working enviornment that corresponds to my studies. I think this will prove valuable during my final year in terms of writing a disertaion and applying real working life to my studies.
The Company
I felt very comfortable straight away in the office. Everyone in the team and other departments were very friendly. We all socialised on a professional and non-professional level.
I felt it was organised very well and I was booked on clients for my start date. I even had work-shadow days with managers set up for additional experience.
I received three days induction which was very informative and introduced me to the company and the people that worked there as well as other interns which I particularly enjoyed. I also received further training from my department and had continuous web-based learning.
Company Parties/Events
I don't find out until the end of the September whether I get a placement but I received very good feedback after my final presentation and interview.
The Culture
I attended social nights out before I even joined the firm and during my time within the firm, with a variety of team members and other interns. The end of internship dinner and dance was also very much appreciated.
I stayed at home since I live in the Glasgow area so it was easy to get to the office and social events. I occassionally travelled to Edinburgh but received the cost back in expenses and was very easy to get a train.
I felt there were many opportunities to get involved with a variety of activities including sports, corporate responsibilty and social events.
