The Role
Really enjoyable. Lots of training to do (which is good), so the more training you do, the more responsibilites you get.
Definitely feel part of the team, everyone is approachable and helpful.
Everyone is happy to help with any queries, which is really useful as I had a lot of questions to begin with.
The workload increases as you learn more about the job and become more confident within the power plant. There is always something to be working on.
Not a huge deal to do with my actual department, but more developing ongoing projects within the Environmental Support section.
I learnt a good deal of physics that will help with my degree, but also a lot about everything else too. This includes time management and a huge appreciation of the complexity of a power plant.
The Company
Relaxed most of the time, but hectic at others.
It was obvious there had been an industrial placement previously, so the correct training to do was already set out etc.
EDF invests a lot in each person, and the training is not really limited - you can book on to training courses yourself.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
There a great prospects for an IP. It is a real step towards the Graduate Scheme, and from there on to opportunities in both the UK an France (learning french on grad scheme is compulsory I think)
The Culture
Yes definitely. Even though only 3 IP's at Sizewell, there were loads of grads so great social scene (especially since the village we all live in is tiny).
Cost of living no more than normal, except co-op being local shop is quite expensive (however tesco's 4 miles down the road). And petrol is more here than where I'm from.
Well, nightlife such as pubs is fine (they don't close until late on fridays and saturdays) but Ipswich for a night out is 25 miles away.
Not so many as village is small with not a great deal to do, but there is a leisure centre.
