The Role
This was my first industrial placement so I don't have anything to compare with, but I am really satisfied with my internship.
I could have socialized more with my colleagues, but getting to know other people takes time so for a short amount of time that I was there it was ok I think.
We had regular meetings with my manager and the rest of the group and I think we formed a good team.
There were days, especially towards the end of the internship, that I was more occupied than normal, but overall I think there was a good balance.
I was able to demonstrate my own ideas and design decisions, so I was pretty happy with the amount of responsibility I was given.
I improved skills I alread had, and I acquired new ones (experience in gem5 simulator).
The Company
The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, but also quite serious. To me it was the right balance between these two.
There were a few issues, especially some technical problems that affected everyone in the company (not just me), and also when we extended my internship for another month I had some problems with my account that kept me away from being productive for a couple of days. It could have been better organization regarding these issues.
People were patient with me in the beginning of my internship, during my "warm up" period, until I got used to the simulator and started being productive.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I would really enjoy to work for ARM at some point in the future.
The Culture
I met and socialized with a few people at work, if I had stayed for more I could have created more contacts with them.
Cost of living was definitely higher compared to Sweden that I currently live, and salary is lower at the same time, so I would have second thoughts before picking UK instead of Sweden.
Most pubs in Cambridge would close around 11-11.30 in the evening, so if you are not a night-club guy then you don't really have an option for nightlife.
There were a few sport activites, but not very well organized in my opinion, and I would really like to get involved into some music activities as well.
