The Role
Great placement working in an interesting and varied team
As my experience and knowledge built, I felt highly valued and motivated
I had a some really great bosses who showed me a great deal and gave me real responsibility
As the year went on, I had a number of projects to run as well as monthly and weekly tasks and reports to undertake
I had the responsibility for a number of tasks and projects, especially in the second half of my placement
Although the training I received was limited, I learnt a number of skills and experienced a great deal of purchasing activity, management and organisational change
The Company
Office environment and atmosphere varied greatly due to people traveling and the organisational change that took place
The department and team had never had a placement student before so it took a while to establish work and training, as they were unsure as to what to expect and what I would be capable of
My managers invested a great deal of time in showing me a number of procurement areas and was supported with my dissertation project. I think investment in training and development has perhaps been halted due to the current economic climate
National Travel
Working from home
This will largely depend on the economic climate as the production of glass has dropped considerably.
The Culture
Very few placement students worked there and they were spread throughout the UK at different sites
I continued to live from home
Office is based in the middle of nowhere so was quite limited
Opportunities to do other activities were emailed to everyone on a regular basis
