The Role
I was expecting existing software infrastructure to work better than it did. I ended up spending most of my time fixing existing, broken, code in the software I was supposed to extend.
Integration with the rest of the time worked nicely. I felt like a regular employee.
I got the support I needed when I needed it. I expected to work independently and didn't require a lot of guidance, so I can't really rate this one.
I probably worked way more than expected, but I enjoyed it, so I can't complain.
I learnt a lot of useful stuff just by being at a real processor manufacturer. The skills I acquired in my project are likely to prove useful, but the most useful part was probably to see "how things work in the real world".
The Company
There is plenty of training material available online within the company and the regular lunch and learns are usually pretty interesting.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I haven't received a formal job offer, but people have mentioned "making room in the budget" and we are about to set up a research collaboration, so things are looking good.
The Culture
Living is pretty expensive.
