The Role
PLEASE NOTE: This review was for a placement at General Motors prior to the amalgamation of Vauxhall and General Motors (The RateMyPlacement Team) I thoroughly enjoyed my job and role within General Motors, the only negative was the distance I chose to go for my placement in relation to my home. This was my first time away from home and I would advise people who are planning thier placement year to carefully consider how far from home they would like to go and whether this will work for them.
Everyone in the team was really welcoming and approachable.
I felt after being told our training courses were cancelled due to the financial crisis the economy is facing currently we could have had more training from an internal member of the workforce, we recieved very little training in the end which i feel would of been highly benificial.
Some days I felt i was far too busy other days I felt I didnt have enough to do which obviously was determined from the requirements of my role. Some parts of the month I had alot of deadlines to meet, whilst at the start of the month it seemed to be quite.
I felt i was given a considerable amount of responsablity during my placement and I actually felt my role played a significant part in ensuring General Motors reputation and brand image was sustained.
I feel all the knowledge, processes, academic skills, social skills, organisational skills etc I gained will be life skills and will most definitely contribute towards making me a more employable individual in the tough job market I will enter upon graduation.
The Company
I felt it was professional and friendly however, sometimes I felt it was a little too formal.
I thought the efforts that General Motors went into organising our placements was fantastic couldnt have asked for any better. They made it fun and also helped us find housing which alot of organisations dont do.
Not alot if its just based on training as we never had any training courses availble due to company finances, however the undergraduate before us was employed for a two week handover period to help us take on our new role which was really good.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Purely because of me not liking Luton.
The Culture
The social side was great, everyone of the undergraduates were really nice, however, Luton hasnt got he best night life but you make the most of what you have available.
Standard to costs a home however, rent per calender month was higher than the north.
not very good but was ok as you're with 70 other students so are able to have numerous house parties.
Gym thats about it.
