The Role
An enjoyable experience overall, but very mixed reviews among other placement students. A good introduction to retail head office.
I always felt my work was appreciated and often was covering other team members workloads.
Shaky at first and actually was changed supervisors due to poor performance on their part. It is up to you on this placement to push yourself and seek development, which reflects real life.
Varies among teams and departments and it was important to plan for peaks and troughs. Bad thing about a placement is once you know when your peaks and troughs will be its time to leave!
This scheme places a lot of responsibility on you which makes your CV look fantastic! More and more was placed upon me as the scheme went on which was great.
The placement has sailed me through interviews for graduate position at both competitors and other industries. i have found the skills i have got from a retail position can be applied to other industries such as banking
The Company
VERY dependant on luck, but this reflects real life. some teams are more energetic and open to fun in the office, some are more serious.
The main positive is the communication from HR.
It was OK, HR courses were good but some others were not relevant. again, push to go on as many as possible.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare/Dental
Unfortunately i have applied for graduate schemes and accepted one elsewhere. The company should do more to retain staff! i felt the salary to return after graduation was below what i could achieve, and i have accepted a much more well paid position elsewhere.
The Culture
Dependent on department for sure and how much your placement year make an effort.
It was a massive struggle. Be very careful about where you choose to live and be realistic about how much of your salary you will actually see.
Oxford Circus is very commercial.
Not a great deal.
