The Role
Thoroughly enjoyable, great atmosphere and plenty of chances to advance your skills.
No 'make the tea' type jobs for students in the department. You are respected as a colleague and treated as any member of the team would be. It helps if you get involved with the office banter too!
Very helpful, as I was shaky at best with programming when I started I was given help whenever it was needed and was up to speed in no time.
There are always things to do even during gaps between projects, be willing to help others out or work outside your comfort zone to learn a few things.
I was given my own projects as well as parts on larger company wide projects. Even trusted to travel from location to location on my own to carry out system installations.
I can honestly say I learned more on this placement that I did in my first two years of university. My grades have gone from an average around mid 50s-60 to 80+
The Company
Although the team were very busy there was always time for some banter and there were always pranks being played and jokes being sent around to keep the mood light.
The placement was highly organised and the company are well accustomed to having a student in their departments.
The company invested a lot of time in developing my skills during my time there.

As I have moved universities I am back in year 2 so have not looked into this.
The Culture
There were regular social events within the students ranging from a few drinks in the nights to a regular football fixture.
Oxford is quite expensive and not my cup of tea for a night out, as it is a fair bit quieter than the places I am used to. However there are loads of nice pubs and eateries and most places are very welcoming.
I was busy every night after work participating in sport or training in a local gym, and with 2 universities nearby there are plenty of opportunities to join a club.
