The Role
The placement far exceeded my expectations and after speaking to fellow students who had participated in a placement year I felt that I came out having learnt the most and having received the best experience
On 2 of my 3 client sites I felt as though I was a highly valued member of the team and i developed brilliant relationships with Accenture team members and some of the client project members. Unfortunately on my first project the team was highly stressed and led to a demotivating atmosphere but I feel that this was an anomaly and not the Accenture norm.
My managers were all supportive and provided advice where necessary but it really is "on the job" training as the variety of roles and clients that Accenture work with mean employees will never ever me able to be trained in it all. If I had any concerns or problems my managers helped me to overcome these.
The majority of the year I was very busy and had worked long days on numerous occasions. I did however expect this as this is normal for the type of industry and the salaries paid. If you would like a 9-5 job then Accenture isn't the placement for you
The responsibility that I was given was amazing on all 3 of the project. Chairing a meeting on a daily basis for 20 of the clients high project team members and resolving the issues was a great achievement and experience. Also developing training which 2,500 members of the clients team would then view was brilliant. At first however the responsibilities will be low until you have proved yourself.
As I wish to continue in consulting after University the skills i developed were very useful. I didn't however feel that they will benefit me in my degree as the two are very different. General life skills also improved such as confidence when meeting new people, the quality of my written business emails etc.
The Company
Generally very good. Often people where very busy so its not a relaxed atmosphere but as soon as they day is finished many team members go out for drinks which is when the fun really begins
The HR representative for the placement employees was brilliant. She was easily contactable and the induction week was faultless and a great way to meet fellow students and other Accenture employees
The company have invested in me by providing me with a job offer which is great, but as I worked for various clients you do often feel that you are in the firing line and need to perform. I have heard rumours that the training once you join as an Analyst is the best in the industry which I also am looking forward too.

The Culture
Mixing with other placement students was great. There were 12 of us and every couple of months we are met up for some great nights out in London. Accenture also helped put some money towards the drinks which was great
I lived at home with my parents so better than cheap...FREE! :)
You cant beat London for obvious reasons and Liverpool was also a brilliant night out. As its not far from Leeds I also had some visits from mates who had not done the placement year which was great
Excellent opportunities to play what ever sport of society you fancy. I played 5 a side football on a weekly basis and regret not joining the tennis team. Something I will do when i return
