The Role
Absolutely loved it
Couldn't have worked with better people
Great support and mentorship pre-summer and throughout the summer
Very busy, just the way I like it
I was running my own business so I was responsible for my own results.
The skills I developed - communication skills, leadership, problem solving, motivation, having a great attitude (the list goes on) helped me more than I could imagine.
The Company
The atmosphere amongst the rest of the team was amazing and everyone looked out for each other - I'd compare it to playing on a top sports team with a fun, focused and competitive people.
It's been going over 150 years so they've figured out what works and how to help people do well - if they're willing to put the work in of course.
We had on campus training before the summer both as a team and individually and a 6-day (award winning) training school. There was also plenty of opportunity to shadow experienced managers during the summer and the chance to speak to a manager each night. In addition we had meetings each Sunday morning before we went off to do fun activities and that really helped us to reach the next level with our goals. The Sunday meetings were really useful and we often had guest speakers such as the President of the company and alumni who now run their own successful businesses or have successful careers after completing the programme when they were students.

Successful students have the opportunity to return for additional summers as junior and senior managers and attend Leadership seminars throughout the year. Southwestern Advantage offers a graduate programme and also guarantees first round interviews with partner companies.
The Culture
The social scene is more at the end of the summer and throughout the year with various events. The summer is pretty busy which is great because it give students the opportunity to save money rather than spending it all in the pub and having nothing to show for it at the end!
The cost of living was pretty cheap. I think most people spent around $100-$200 on average a week (roughly £65-£130) which including rent, food, transportation, actives etc. As mentioned we didn't go out much so most people saved quite a bit and ended up spending it at the outlet malls and parties in the smokey mountains at the end of the summer.
Not sure but the nightlife in Nashville at the end of the summer was really good.
Not really during the summer - but I knew that before I went out. You make great contacts through the job so there's plenty of opportunity to get involved in activities once you get back to uni.
