The Role
PLEASE NOTE: This review was for a placement at General Motors prior to the amalgamation of Vauxhall and General Motors (The RateMyPlacement Team) Great place to work surrounded by nice people throughout the office. I was given alot of responsibility straight away and learnt alot during my year.
My manager was always quick to congratulate me on any work I did for him. I was involved in a number of meetings with senior management and was treated as a colleague and not just a student.
My manager would always be available whenever I needed help or support
There was a constant flow of work, with the end of each yearly quarter being especially busy.
I was left to work on my own innitiative and given important jobs within the department
I will be far better prepared when I return to university and I now have a better idea of what is expected from me in future careers once I have graduated.
The Company
The atmosphere was positive and friendly despite some difficult times for the company whilst I was working there.
Very well organised
I was given some additional training during my placement, but my year was unfortunate as money had to be saved due to the down turn in the Motoring industry. Therefore there was not as much training available.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I am unsure if there will be a graduate scheme in 2010 but if there is then I will be very keen to apply and re join the company.
The Culture
Brillaint, better than university
Luton was not the nicest of areas so was quite cheap but was ideally placed as was close to London and other more attractive cities.
Not the best, but we travlled to better cities near by on regular occassions.
I took part in a cross country run and there were always events being organised by fellow undergraduates that we could get involved with.
