About You
Very much enjoyed it.
Everyone was very supportive and took care to make sure I had things to do. Even those with no direct responsibility for me took an interest in my progress.
My buddy was FANTASTIC - always taking the time to explain fully the work he was giving me and happy to answer any questions I had, no matter how busy he was.
Not at all useful for my degree but will be very useful in my career.
The Company
Extremely well structured. Mostly time spent in departments but with presentations from every practice group to enable us to get a feel for the whole firm and presentations on other aspects of life at the firm e.g. secondments, CSR etc.
Fairly serious but everyone was extremely busy while I was there. Everyone very cheery and pleasant to chat to.
They did a lot to make sure we had workshops in a range of skills relevant to law and gave us a range of exercises to complete to develop those skills.
As a vac schemer, I was doing the work of a trainee in my department and therefore got a significant insight into the sorts of work I would be doing if I was there full-time.
2 weeks isn't really long enough to understand fully the firm's culture, but I got a feel for the sorts of people who worked at the firm and its values.
Extremely informative presentations on different practice areas. I still don't know yet which I'm interested in but I feel a lot more informed about what's on offer and what life is like in each one.
Everything Else
250 pounds/week to cover expenses.
Lots of opportunities to meet trainees, though it tended to be the same ones who came to each event. Would have been nice to meet more associates.
The two socials we had were brilliant. One more event, with more opportunity for networking, might have been nice.
We found out a lot about the CSR opportunities, but there was no mention of the sports teams, music activities etc that I know the team has.
Brilliant. Came away with a very good impression both of the firm and of law as a career.
