The Role
As a result of my intership I gained a 12 month contract with the organisation so the experience was extremely worthwhile and rewarding.
Everyone was incredibly welcoming and in the first two weeks I was given meetings with everyone in my team so I understood their roles within the team. They were kind enough to celebrate my birthday and I was given a leaving present which really made me feel valued.
The volunteering manager check in with us most weeks and provided other opportunities we could get involved in through the wider organisation. I had weekly chats with my line manager and there were a few reviews completed along my placement so that we could both comment on my progress.
There was a good balance and I was able to ask for more projects when I didn't feel as busy.
I was responsible for a number of tasks and saw them through from start to finish.
The skills I have developed directly enabled me to get a job in the organisation and will be transferable as they were a number of core skills that will help me throughout my career.
The Company
I worked in a more serious directorate but there was plenty of opportunities to get involved in other directorates.
Excellent, from interview process to completion. They were kind enough to reschedule my interview due to a family emergency I had and from the outset it was well run. The intern induction day was a great opportunity to get to know the other interns and also to learn about the organisation.
I was able to pick up training for excel and also attend a project management workshop. I was also able to go to meetings outside the organisation which I found very beneficial.

Healthcare/Dental
I applied, interviewed and got an internal vacany and as a result will be staying on working with my current team.
The Culture
The interns usually met up weekly for drinks. There was also a netball team that played once a week in a social league.
We were given a lunch allowance and travel allowance. I did not have to pay more than my weekly travel ticket to get to the placement.
Plenty of bars and a few clubs
We were emailed weekly with extra fundraising and sporting events that we could go along and support. Such as wedding expos and cheering for supporters in sporting events.
