The Role
PLEASE NOTE: This review was for a placement at General Motors prior to the amalgamation of Vauxhall and General Motors (The RateMyPlacement Team) Although the job promised much, the economic environment GM found itself in limited the job I could do.
A very mixed bag of colleagues. Some were friendly, cheery and always happy to help you out. Others made you feel unwelcome and made no effort to get to know you
I had two managers in my time in the job. The first was very unhelpful, and seemed to take an instant dislike to me. However, the second manager was the complete opposite and was very helpful at any time i needed to speak to him. All of the higher management were friendly and down to earth
I was not busy as time went on, due to GM's worsening economic position
When I was busy, I was put in charge of a high value contract, and was allowed to organise and chair my own business meetings without companies
I was pleased to have spent my placement working full time in an office environment, it has allowed me to mature and know how to act in the future. I also went to some presentation courses which came in very handy when I was due to give large presentations to management
The Company
Mostly happy, but the threat of job losses dampened the mood somewhat
From the open days to the meetings and training, the organisation was very well done
I went to a few training courses and was allowed to check my development with personal targets and goals
Although the time I spent there was made difficult by GM's financial position, I would like to work there when there is a safety and assurance about the company's future
The Culture
There was around 70 undergrads at GM in the year, and although Luton wasnt a nice place to live, everyone lived close to each other and could go to London or any other road trips
average for a normal town
had two nightclubs, both were pretty average
apart from goin round to each others houses or oganising something outside of luton, not much
