About You
I really enjoyed the insight day. It was incredibly informative and there were fantastic networking opportunities available. I would definitely recommend this insight to anyone thinking of a career in consulting.
Everyone at the day, whether it be the presenters, representatives from HR or the other students there, were really passionate and animated about the area of consulting they were representing and seemed genuinely interested in us students and our future career ambitions.
Everyone there was helpful and willing to answer absolutely any questions I had involving Towers Watson, the internship process or specifics on career paths.
Part of the insight day involved an Employability Session which was given by members of the HR Graduate Recruitment Team. We were given a lot of advice regarding applications for internships at Towers Watson as well as other companies, telephone interviews and interviews. It was an interactive session that had everyone practising answering the most difficult of interview questions. This session was really useful for anyone considering applying to the Towers Watson summer internship the following year.
The Company
A large proportion of the day revolved around actuarial consulting, which made sense as almost everyone I came across on the day was doing an actuarial sciences or maths degree. The only downside was for people like myself who were more interested in the Talent and Rewards Consulting and therefore weren't as interested in the actuarial side. Having said this, learning about the actuarial consulting side of the business wasn't irrelevant for those interested in talent and rewards. It provided me with an oversight into the company a whole which was beneficial no matter what department you were interested in.
On the whole it was a really great day and I am very glad I did it. We always had things to do and people to talk to throughout the day so there was never a dull moment! It was a very helpful day to confirm to me that a career in consulting is something that I would like to find out more about!
Particularly at the employability session, there was advice given on improving our CVs with regards to applying for Towers Watson again in the future as well as other companies.
At th insight there was the opportunity to meet some of the recent graduates working at Towers Watson as well as senior consultants and directors who had worked there for a long time. It made me very easily see what a career with Towers Watson would be like from start to finish.
I learnt a lot more about the consulting world than I new before although but only specifically related to Towers Watson.
The insight day clarified my career path for me. I was previously set on an in house career rather than consulting but I have completely changed my mind as a result of the insight day. I am so glad I went to Towers Watson now!
Everything Else
I was reimbursed expenses.
At lunch there was the opportunity to talk to so many people from all different backgrounds working in Towers Watson. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and it meant that networking was easier and fun!
At lunchtime there was loads of networking opportunities. There was also the chance to ask questions either during or after all of the presentations.
We were told about the social opportunities or sporting opportunities such as inter-departmental competitions.
This insight was only one day but I learnt so much about consulting - a career path that I had previously not really considered. Definitely worth it if you're interested in HR, actuarial or investment consulting!
