The Role
I really enjoyed waking up everyday to go to work, I was challenged and this made my work very exciting.
My colleagues embraced me very quickly and didn't want me to leave.
Within Operations, management were very involved in the development of interns as they made themselves very accessible whenever I needed to speak with them. Also as part of the internship in BarCap each intern was to meet at least 3 MD's and 7 Directors this shoes how much BarCap encouraged junior level staff to meet and network with senior staff.
Most times I was busy especially as i began to take ownership of my duties and tasks. With independence in your work you learn to find work to do which always ensures you are busy doing something valuable.
I was given a fair bit of responsibility running a project which meant I needed to encourage my team members to complete certain tasks so I could send reports to management daily.
The Company
The general atmosphere indicated that majority of the people enjoyed their work.
The entire internship especially within the operations division was very well put together as besides our daily duties on our desks, we had a internship long project with other interns which ended via a presentation to the most senior management in operations. We also had weekly presentations from varying business heads across the business.
The company trained all the interns for a week and further training was done on the job.
Subsidised/Company Gym
I got a full time job offer once i completed my studies.
The Culture
The social scene was very much there unless you didn't want to get involved, the interns organized weekly outings in the city. Also my fellow colleagues went out together.
The cost was similar to the rest of London and the City which is expensive.
Canary Wharf was not a nightlife area other than the after works drinks there were no clubs.
