The Role
The work I was given was fun, interesting. I was also invited out of work team drinks etc with my team, and always had great fun with them
I was given loads of responsibilty and work to do. A variety of people in my team asked for my help with things, and i always felt my work was valued by everyone
My Line manager was great, and always helped me if I needed her to. As the desk layout is very open, I could easily and happily go and talk to our Global Head of department if I wanted to, which meant that I never felt 'lower' than anyone else.
events work can peak and trough, but I always ensured that I kept myself busy with researching venues, if I did not have any work to do
I was given the correct amount of responsibilty. i was allowed to run events and site visits towards the end of my time there. However help was there if i needed it.
Not directly related to my degree, but i can incorporate it if i wish. Great skills learned, and will be very useful.
The Company
Everyone gets on so well, and being a team player is a key part of getting the role
Other than just the work, events were put on for the interns, such as dragon boat racing, volunteering, boat party etc
we had training, but we also got to have private meetings with 10 MDs and Ds, which allowed us to learn about the firm as a whole
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I was offered the Graduate Scheme with them
The Culture
events put on by Barclays Capital allowed us to get to know eachother, and so we regularly went out after work or at the weekends
I commuted quite a long way, in order to keep my rent costs low. Canary wharf is expensive, but we were paid very well, so it was easily covered
good bars in the area, but a short tube ride from other clubd and bars
I played for the Barclays Capital touch rugby team, and evcen got to play in a tournament with them! Many other sports and networking possibilities
