About You
It was was a day full of variety which kept things interesting. The talks were interesting, staff were nice, and food was decent.
We were made to feel very welcome by the company. This included the more senior members of team, who had a lot of time for us.
The insight was short enough that not much guidance was necessary. We were shown around and looked after during the day sufficiently.
Participating in business games helped develop the way in which investments are considered. We were taught about the different roles of actuaries/consultants/banks/accountants etc which placed my studies in business/finance into context.
The Company
Very well structured. We had many different events in different locations, with 2 breaks. This kept things fresh. The only issue was finishing almost an hour late which disrupted plans I had made subsequent to the day.
The atmosphere was positive. Some participants were fairly timid, but this is to be expected considering for many it was their first time in a large City firm. Graduate recruitment were very warm and enthusiastic.
We did not receive personal training. The business games/presentations however gave a good insight into the firm, the actuary world, and the world of investment. The firm did thus invest in us to some extend.
We had very specific talks about different areas concerning both Towers Watson actuaries and consultants, in addition to long networking sessions. For this reason, we gained a good understanding of what it is like to work at the firm.
Everyone was friendly and enthusiastic. However, we were not given an office tour, so it is hard to decipher whether the insight day truly reflected the company culture.
It gave a good comparison to an alternative course to commercial law, which is my favoured career path. I realised I am less suited to a career as an actuary, but possibly quite suited to consulting, so in this respect it was useful.
Everything Else
The reimburse up to £75 which was very fair for a 1 day event.
Ample opportunity for networking. We had breakfast with graduate recruitment present, an extended break with employees, a long lunch with employees, and the opportunity to ask numerous questions during presentations.
The networking opportunities were good. Nice food was provided and we ate/networked in a nice, open area in the offices.
We did to some extent. People were involved in sports teams.
The variety, the opportunity to network, the detailed insight into consulting/life as an actuary, the business games, and of course, the food all made the day very enjoyable. I would recommend.
