The Role
The time I spent working in the Telematics department of JLR was amazing, it was an experience I could not even dream of acquiring in university.
At first, my colleagues did not really know what to do with me, but after I put a lot of effort into understanding the system we were working with, my colleagues began to value my opinions and the work I was doing for them, and entrusted me with completing tasks that would be given only to experienced employees in other circumstances.
The management in JLR was quite busy pursuing their deadlines and goals, but I always found possibilities to discuss issues with them and I always received the help I needed from them.
The workload in the team was shifting quite a lot, with some weeks being very busy, and some being very relaxed. However, I was never bored in my work, so it was not a major issue.
During my placement, my responsibilities grew over time from just learning how to perform testing, up to training several people to perform tests, and being sent to work with our suppliers for two months to aid them with problem fixing.
The knowledge I have gained in how Telematics systems work will certainly help me to apply for jobs all around the world in the automotive industry, and has given me a clear understanding of which areas of engineering I want to study.
The Company
The atmosphere in the JLR office was not too exciting, however, the placement offered me to travel around the world and enjoy luxury cars when doing testing, so I had a great deal of fun.
The organization of the placement was probably the weakest aspect of the JLR placement programme, I did not feel like there was any particular programme set for placement people after we started our work. However, it was at the same time a good thing, since it prepared me for real life situations, when I would experience the same kind of initial confusion when I go to a workplace after graduating.
JLR offered me excellent opportunities to develop my skills in business, engineering, and out-of-work opportunities. The self development system set up in JLR even allows me to earn a MSc degree if enough effort and hours of work are invested in the learning courses.

I would be very happy to return back to JLR to work for them after graduating. I feel like I am being valued in JLR for my abilities, and I am very excited about the chances to travel to various countries in my work.
The Culture
There was enough social activity for people who enjoy being social. I cannot judge this point very well, since I prefer to spend my free time alone.
The living cost was fairly moderate, and I was able to save enough money to cover my living expenses for the next academic year and to buy a few musical instruments. However, I cannot judge well the social costs, since I did not attend a lot of social events by by own choice.
Even though I do not enjoy going to clubs or pubs at night, there were still not a lot of options to do so for the people who would want to do so.
There was a fair amount of JLR sponsored activities for people that had the mobility to travel up to 20 miles for attending them. Since I did not have a car, I was fairly limited in my options, but regardless, there were enough options of activities to do that I could not fit all of them even if my day was 48 hours long.
