The Role
I have gained a very wide range of skills working on many different real life projects. I have been able to work in and with different departments during the placement period.
The projects I have been allocated have allowed me to become the point of contact for other members of the business.
The company management is both professional, effective, and helpful.
Many of the projects I have been given have had been large projects with long deadlines, work load can be high for one week and low for the next.
The level of responsibility I have been given has increased over a period of time. At my current point in the placement I have been involved in creating procedures and methods of working for a new software platform being introduced to the team.
I feel the amount of skills and the rate in which I have been learning on this placement year, easily rivals that of a year in university. Skills such as time management, planning, leading projects are all skills that will be invaluable on my return to university.
The Company
People in the office are very focused, and professional.
Placement was similar to the programme enrolled by the graduates. The aim of the department is to get undergrads working effectively alongside the other engineers. Most of the time whilst working outside the department engineers will not know or recognise the difference between undergrads and grads
Projects allocated to me where picked to help my personal development, I have attended multiple training courses, including off road driving, on road driving, how to use software packages and general automotive electronics training.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Currently undergrads are fast-tracked straight to the Graduate assessment centres.
The Culture
Undergraduates tended to be more focused on work than Graduates, this appears to be because the Graduates have got their full time Job... Department nights out happen occasionally, these are a great opportunity to get to know your colleagues better.
Leammington Spa, is the location many JLR employees live. Which is a reasonable cost of living, compared with Warwick, which is more costly.
