About You
Was a really interesting and engaging insight course would definitely recommend it
All the people involved were really friendly and approachable, although since it was an insight we weren't actually making a contribution to the company so 'valued' is probably the wrong word
The entire time was structured, again because it was an insight course rather than a placement.
Gave me a better idea of what the different business areas did, so when I choose which division to apply for I am making an informed decision
The Company
Very well structured only issue I had was going to the trading floor for work shadowing as the market closed, but I rescheduled it for the next day and they were very accommodating so it wasn't a problem
Was very enjoyable, the networking events were really good.
The purpose of the course was to introduce us to the operations of the different business areas and they were successful in that respect
The work shadowing, some of which was scheduled, some of which I arranged with people I met while I was there gave a good insight into what that particular area did. I was put in the division I wanted to be in however I know a couple of people were not.
Obviously you can never be sure how representative a cross section of the people at the company are, however all the people I met seemed very happy and the culture at the bank seemed very positive.
It didn't so much help me decide on a career path so much as stop me from ruling some business areas out for the wrong reasons but yes it has been very useful
Everything Else
I personally not reimbursed expenses since it didn't cost me anything to get there/live nearby, however I know the other people on the course who had come from far away were put up in a hotel and reimbursed for travel expenses.
There was an evening drinks reception type networking event, a trip to a bowling alley, a networking lunch and networking with senior employees from a panel discussion.
I don't know if there are any closer bowling alleys but Brick Lane was a fair way away. Apart from that very good.
Only through talking to them but it wasn't so much get involved in as so much as I was just chatting about what their personal interests were.
Yes so long as they are genuinely interested in a career in finance
