    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very good placement overall, and still enjoy coming to work everyday. Employees are friendly, helpful and resourceful. The company is growing and the biggest pain was finding a car parking space.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • To an extent yes, although it was difficult to get my views and opinions noticed and acted upon during the first few months.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Help was in abundance to begin with to ensure I settled in quickly. I was pointed to different resources to bring me up to speed with the processes and work involved. Any assistance on projects was also available if needed although independent work and problem-solving is encouraged.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Towards the start there was a lot of material to get through and various projects to learn about. There were some points in the placement where the workload was a bit light but then recently and during the final 8-9 months of placement I have been busy juggling multiple interesting projects.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A fair amount of responsibility was given - nothing too much for an undergraduate to handle but a suitable amount that was crucial at points to projects as well as a main independent project to manage and develop.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Time management skills and project planning are perhaps the best skills to be taken from this placement as well as a reasonable amount of technical knowledge surrounding the area of consumer electronics. A lot of the skills will be transferable to university and later career work.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very good, lively and dynamic but also serious and focused when needed.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Ok overall - switched location of work on induction day with no prior notice. Other aspects were good with HR sorting everything out for the placement with minimum involvement on my part.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • On a sponsored scheme until I begin as a graduate. This includes an additional two 3-month summer placements. There is also an employee learning scheme that JLR subsidises for employees every year.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Being on the sponsored scheme entails going on summer placements between your remaining academic years at uni until you graduate and after a further interview (smaller than the normal graduate job process) are enrolled on the graduate scheme.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were some graduate/undergraduate events set up but the most socialising outside of work was with colleagues in various team meals and team building activities.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived with a relative so not too expensive to live. Coventry and Leamington's social and nightlife scene is quite reasonable.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Leamington has a few good bars and clubs to go to and is lively on student nights and on weekends. Warwick is more limited, as is Coventry.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, plenty of team building activities and other events were organised by the team and the company.

    5/5
