About You
It was enjoyable and proved to be a hands-on approach to the work done in corporate law (the department I was sat in).
I felt I was given much responsibility and had an important role to play in a variety of tasks. Knwoing that the end product depended much on my contribution made me more attentive.
The Company
The insight was well structured with an effective balance of group activities and time for individiual exposure to a department.
The atmoshpere was very proffesional and approachable.
The company invested much time into my vacation scheme. Key individuals in the firm put aside time for a networking session as well as talks throughout the scheme. Their expertise provided much guidance
The insight developed my understanding of the work culture at Simmons & Simmons. Moreover, I understood the responsibility placed on trainees at the firm and how this differed from others.
As previously mentioned, the insight was extremely helpful to understand the office culture at the firm. I understood the expectations placed on trainees as well as the emphasis on team effort and cross-practice interaction. The atmoshpere was condusive to work and proffessional.
The content provided, especially through an application timeline sessino, enabled me to better understand what my immnediate and long term steps would be. Moreover, the chance to question proffessionals in the field exposed me to various methods of furthering a degree/career in law.
Everything Else
The payment provided by the firm proved more than enough to cover any expenses.
There were several opportunities to meet employees in the firm. Some included more passive formats such as presentations. However, we were able to also engage with some of the associates and partners through networking sessions, drinks and activities. I valued each interaction.
The networking opportunities provided were varied. There were more serious formats such as a Q&A session and more informal ones such as a drinks evening. I found the balance to be effective and adequet for my needs.
I found out about the plethora of activities employees take part in. Be it sport (through local leagues) or pro bono, the opportunties at the firm were diverse. I had not initially realized the extent of this.
I would definitely recommend the experience to a friend. Although the time alotted was brief (1 week) the amount of work done in it and the experience itself was incredibly valuable. Moreover, I could better asses intangible aspects such as office culture.
