The Role
It was fun once I'd settled in.
When they were busy, it was clear they did not want me to pester them, but this was understandable. When it was not busy, everyone was very helpful.
My line manager was very helpful.
Some days I was very busy, but most of the time I was not that busy and would have time to read the research pieces.
I was not given a great deal of responsibility because much of what the team did involved client facing. I was not allowed to quote prices to clients, since this requires FSAs, and I couldn't be trusted to talk to clients because hedge fund clients are rather impatient and like speaking to experienced sales people with market knowledge, which I obviously lacked.
Not particularly relevant for my degree, but the knowledge I gained was excellent in terms of my future career.
The Company
Summer is a quiet time of year. When it was quiet, the atmosphere was quite dull, when it wasn't, things were more interesting.
HR had done a great job of organising events/meetings/feedback etc. but my line manager and team seemed a little underprepared.
Unless people were very busy, they were always willing to help. We were also given online training courses which were optional, but recommended.
Subsidised Canteen
They have offered me a job conditional on a 2.1.
The Culture
Yes, we often went for drinks after work and then gathered a larger group to go out on weekends.
Canary Wharf is not cheap - it is in London! But not exorbitant.
Canary Wharf itself has very little nightlife - the bars and pubs are quite nice, but for proper going out, you have to go to central
Yes - a inter-bank touch rugby contest, a day in the community doing charity work (I went to Southend and helped look after kids on a day out).
