About You
A great chance to meet like-minded people and get an overview of the company- complete with some great food and brilliant networking events!
Everyone who worked at UBS and was involved with the Insights programme gave us their full attention and made sure that all of us were happy and comfortable with what we were doing.
The human resources team were very informative and approachable and around at all times. All problems got resolved.
I definitely walked away at the end much more aware about the firm and more specifically my department, which was good since I came in quite clueless. This will be transferable to other such placements and internships, but doesn't necessarily align with academic studies and my course.
The Company
Very good- the first couple of days consisted of a presentation + workshop for each department in the firm, which provided a good overview. Work shadowing happened on the third day as an extension of this, and more relevant to each of our chosen departments. Finally there was a wrap up and close on the Thursday, followed by the Assessment Centre on Friday. Throughout the entire thing there were icebreaker events and we came into contact with several people who worked at the firm of different levels.
Most of the people I met were happy to be there, and everyone was very engaged with the activities that we had been taking part in.
We were only part of the Insights week, so this was fairly limited- but I will say that throughout the week we did get several hints and tips that we otherwise wouldn't have in order to tackle the Assessment Centre at the end- this was very helpful.
We were very well equipped with this knowledge from the first day, especially during the work shadowing when we saw a typical working day in action.
There was quite a lot of emphasis on this and getting across to us how UBS is different to other firms. However it is difficult to gauge in such a short space of time.
It definitely cleared up for me which department would be right for me within the context of investment banking- although my mind is yet to be made up about whether investment banking in general is for me.
Everything Else
Reimbursement was for longer travelling distances than mine, I only had a 20minute bus commute so I did not qualify. But certainly those who had travelled from other cities were given accommodation and we were all fed throughout the programme.
Yes, at every stage of the process. There was more than enough contact with new graduates and people who had entered the system only recently- personally I would have liked a little bit more access to the higher qualified and more established characters in the firm as well.
There was only one social event which I really enjoyed, and there was plenty of chances to talk to each other in between and during activities. Perhaps a social event to round the week off would have meant we all left feeling like we had made long lasting contacts- especially since the assessment centre was on the last day many of us didn't get a final chance to say goodbye to the new people we had met. Luckily we created a facebook group for this, and there has been a lot of chatter and networking over this.
Limited. We were told a little about the volunteering opportunities available to employees but that was about it.
Yes- a great way to meet new people, enhance your CV, and a good platform for getting the internship!
