About You
Whilst it was hard work, the programme was also designed to be enjoyable and I met a lot of nice people.
Those who we met at UBS showed a genuine interest, were very welcoming and valued our opinions.
There was a good combination between challenging us and allowing us to work things out on our own, and guiding us through things step by step.
I have gained a valuable insight into the industry which, while it will not be particularly useful in my degree, will be very valuable in applying for future placements and jobs.
The Company
Very well structured - the week was well designed to give us a brief insight into every area of the company, and a deeper understanding of our chosen sector.
Though many people were initially quite nervous and quiet, the atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming, enabling everyone to settle in and enjoy the week.
As well as many talks and presentations, we had the opportunity to work shadow and to speak to many employees (both recent graduates and those in more senior roles) which allowed me to get a good idea of what a full time role would be like.
The culture of UBS was something which was discussed a lot, and speaking to employees reflected what we had been told about it being an open and collegiate culture.
It enabled me to work out which aspects of an Investment bank appealed to me, and which did not, giving me a much better idea of the specific career path I might like to pursue.
Everything Else
Travel expenses were reimbursed and I was given accommodation in a hotel for the week.
We had many informal opportunities to meet employees, and a specific networking lunch, followed by a work shadow.
We went bowling one evening which was a good opportunity to speak to people in a more informal environment and was very good fun.
