About You
I enjoyed it very much. There was a huge amount of variety on offer throughout the day, which ensured the insight remained interesting and stimulating. The people attending were great, as were the employees. It was the only insight day to also include work shadowing!
We were shown a lot of attention. Allen & Overy clearly invested a lot of time and money into the programme-great food, networking opportunities, and presentations from very senior employees were all included.
We received as much support as necessary. Everyone was willing to help, answer questions and provide advice when needed. We had lots of contact with graduate recruitment too. The A&O grad recruitment team are so well organised/quick to respond/helpful!
I developed confidence, networking, negotiating and team-working skills. I also gained a strong insight into the workings of a magic circle law firm, and the flexibility of thought/researching skills etc required. This will help with my study as we regularly need these skills for presentations and team-based work, whilst also providing focus with regards to future module choices.
The Company
It was incredibly well structured. Everything ran on time, exercises were varied and in a good order that kept us engaged. Events were not too long and were very relevant. As mentioned, the work shadowing was the icing on the cake!
Everyone selected to take part in the insight was ambitious, friendly, good fun and intelligent. We had similar interests and motivations. This created an atmosphere conducive to productivity. Graduate recruitment were very friendly, as were A&O employees which also contributed to the positivity.
Many senior figures gave us presentations/supervised and judged the negotiation exercise. We also had skills sessions which really helped with interview preparation for full vacation schemes.
We were provided the opportunity to shadow trainees across various areas-this provided an insight into the type of projects trainees work on. We were also provided an introduction to capital markets which was incredibly interesting and shed greater light on the potential world of a commercial lawyer.
Experiencing the offices whilst shadowing; meeting numerous employees at a networking lunch; and having ample contact with graduate recruitment helped a lot.
I was exposed to enough of the type of work undertaken in A&O to help inform my decision concerning my future career path. It was thus very useful and I am very interested in commercial law.
Everything Else
Reimbursed.
We had many networking opportunities. Lunch with trainees/associates; and work shadowing with many different employees.
As it was only one day, there was not a huge amount of time for a large event. However, the food was good, venue was nice (in the offices) and the company was interesting,
A little, but only from casually chatting to employees.
Definitely. Considering it is only one day out of your life, there is so much variety that you get a great opportunity to expierience A&O, make good contacts (one I made helped proof read my summer scheme application), and what it would be like to be a commercial lawyer.
