About You
It provided an amazing opportunity to learn a lot not only about the markets division specifically, but also shape my understanding of what I would like to do after graduating. Work shadowing sessions (4x3 hr) were extremely useful, as they provided a chance not only to learn about the functions of the particular business division, but also NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK.
We were indeed taken a good care of - the hotel was top-notch and the food was good as well. Any questions were answered warmly as well.
As much as could have been needed.
Not sure about the degree, as I am writing this straight after completion, but it definitely assists me in understanding of where I see myself after graduation.
The Company
The structure was good, except I personally would have loved to have more (technical) presentations from people working in various divisions in RBS, rather than such great emphasis on training or simulations (I do think they did their bit to equalize the candidates' knowledge, but the started off from the very basics).
Loved it.
We had a total of 12 hours of rotations, which is not something you get in every spring week. Given these were some busy days for the desks, I'd say it was a great investment.
Again, rotations. Nothing else can convey effectively what working on the particular desks feels like.
Rotations were great time to ask about it, and RBS does indeed stand out with its flat hierarchical structure at the desks.
First two days were presentations/training/simulations, so not very. Rotations - absolutely yes.
Everything Else
Hotel was booked (around 10 mins walk from the locations), catered as well.
We had one networking event with fellow students, and one with graduates/senior people at the end of the week.
I wish we had even more informal exposure to grads/seniors. Friday closing event was great fun.
Apart from CSR, in which we got ourselves involved as well, I did not ask :)
Compared to spring weeks of many other banks, this one definitely stands out in its usefulness. Rotations part was absolutely unforgettable experience, many other spring weeks do less shadowing.
