About You
It was interesting and informative. I gained a much better understanding of what trainees do and a glimpse of the differences between practice areas. The social event was also fun, although we did not win.
Was made to feel useful during the work-shadowing because I actually got to do some work.
Lots. There were always people to ask whenever something confusing came up.
Personal Branding Workshop was helpful. Advice about the application procedure was equally good.
The Company
Lots of events but with enough breaks in between. It's over two days, so doesn't feel too crowded. Nice mix of activities - team-building, negotiation exercise, personal branding and talks about the firm.
Very friendly. Trainees as well as more senior employees were helpful.
The Personal Branding Workshop and talk on applications/interviews/assessments helped me determine what I ought to flag up in my application,. They also demonstrated how I should conduct myself during interviews and what to expect from the assessment day.
I shadowed trainees in two departments for an hour each, during which I time I gained a much better understanding of what their work involves. The trainees explained the nature of the training contract, their specific seats and the firm as a whole.
The talk given on the firm itself mentioned the firm's values, so there was an indication there of what the culture was like. While shadowing trainees, touring the offices and speaking to more senior employees these qualities were also apparent.
A first-hand observation of the work at a large corporate law firm was a unique experience and allowed me to better judge the merits of the profession.
Everything Else
Travel expenses were paid for. They had rooms in a nearby hotel for us during the night.
Over lunch and during shadowing.
Quiz was fun, though we didn't win. Networking was useful, but nothing out of the ordinary.
We were told about the firm's CSR initiatives and the number of sports/music groups made up of employees.
It's a unique experience that allowed to me to judge whether corporate law was for me or not. Demystifies a lot of rumours.
