About You
Took part in a range of activities during the week, not just presentations. The chance to shadow an analyst in trading/capital markets was a real eyeopener.
I was surprised at how open RBS staff were, they were on hand to answer any questions I had and were happy to go in depth into the technicals which I particularly enjoyed.
More than I could have hoped for, the presentations were good to get an overview of the division and the work-shadowing followed nicely from that;
Takeaways from the week are more along the lines of leadership/interpersonal skills rather than actual knowledge. I had covered a lot of the technicals in a module at uni already.
The Company
Timetabled from the beginning, so it was fairly easy to keep track of what to expect during the day.
Good atmosphere throughout, met several people whom I had already met at the interview stage, so it was great to see some familiar faces and many new ones.
Definitely were patient in explaining a lot of the fundamentals that are necessary to understand the more complex trading patterns on the job.
Clarified what kind of environment a graduate might expect at the firm and really allowed me to build a clearer image of RBS after the week had ended.
The culture at the firm was evident throughout the week especially during the work shadowing when you could clearly see the passion driving the individuals who worked their
Great to evaluate whether investment banking is where you want to be once you graduate - a hands-on experience was invaluable in achieving this.
Everything Else
Reimbursed expenses
Certainly. I even was able to speak to one or two MDs about current affairs / their lives outside of the office. Really a chance to get to know them as people.
Thoroughly enjoyed by most I felt, there were always enough employees to talk to as well which was good - avoided the 10 people huddled around one staff member scenario.
At RBS there is a certain emphasis on doing charitable work where possible, and this was also incorporated into our schedule.
Really worth checking out and great for forming a second opinion on RBS as a bank - despite what the papers/news have said about it in the past.
