    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was a great insight due to the fact that we had a broad view of the whole company. This means we didn't just see Markets, but also International Banking, Operations and Technology to see how they tie and work together. We also had work shadowing for two days across Capital Markets, Sales, Trading, Research and Structuring. This is what I enjoyed the most as I have never seen the trading floor before, and I learned a lot.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The employees were extremely friendly and were eager to help and teach us throughout the week. Some even took us for coffee to have a casual chat, so this gave me a great view of the culture of RBS.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Great guidance throughout, particularly whilst work shadowing. The employees were respectful and friendly in trying to teach us aspects of their job and answering our questions.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Gained a great insight into the various roles within Markets due to the extensive explanations given by presentations and by the employees themselves whilst work shadowing. We also received skills in client interaction, which I believe is highly adaptable and an important life skill.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • There was a clear timetable, whereby we learn the basics of the business and its operations first, then technical training and workshops before work shadowing employees and reaching the assessment day.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone was very friendly with each other and down to earth. There was no sense that they were in one of the most prestigious jobs in the financial sector, nor any sign of them being very stressed. There were laughs and joking around between employees throughout the week, which gives a good impression on the atmosphere and culture of RBS.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a day of workshops and training sessions including trading and client interaction, as well as employees taking time off work to spend time with us during work shadowing.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The week was very thorough and any questions we had were easily answered.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Employees were very down to earth and joked around with each other, as well as having social events throughout the year.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The week made me sure of pursing a career in Markets, and all my questions were answered.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were not paid due to it being an insight week, however we were offered reimbursed expenses and accommodation if it was required.

  • We were regularly coming into contact with employees and HR, particularly during work shadowing.
