About You
The insight was well structured with an initial couple of days to teach us the tools required for the placement and the remaining days revolving around work shadowing rotations to gain more of an understanding and practice what we had previously been taught.
All the employees were extremely approachable and the company was well organised in sorting out our daily activities. You were given the opportunity to get to know those working alongside you and all the individuals were excellent and very friendly.
Early on during presentations there was good guidance. Throughout the program, those in the HR department where there to offer support and guidance at all times if required. During the work shadowing rotations, there was a good level of guidance to explain what activities were being undertaken and what could be achieved from them.
There were really beneficial life topics taught, explained and tested such as networking. The challenges given from some individuals during the rotations were both interesting yet testing which teaches you to work in a team and work under pressure to get answers. I would definitely say the skills developed and information learnt was vastly beneficial.
The Company
The insight was very well structured with a timetable and explanations given on where to be when and how. Everything was kept to time and all the activities initially promised were delivered. The structure was more or less faultless.
The group of individuals selected were all very sociable and easy to work with. It was very satisfying to work in a group of well learned individuals from across the UK. The diversity amongst the individuals was also nice, and the atmosphere was friendly yet focused.
The training in the first two days were very good and there were interesting speakers from 3rd party firms. As for development across the week, there were testing situations and good support from the employees so this too was great.
The two days spent doing work shadowing rotations explains everything about working in a full time role in various different divisions at the firm.
By working alongside multiple employees from different divisions, one gains a good understanding of the company culture. Presentations from individuals high up in the firm were also beneficial.
The content during the days were well explained, thorough and allowed for any niggling questions which were again well answered. This gives you a really good insight into what the career involves and aids in helping decide career paths.
Everything Else
Decent accommodation was provided near the offices, hence there was no need to cover any travel costs.
Networking was a mina subject in the week and yes there were multiple opportunities throughout.
There was a quiz to network with other interns which was okay. Bar that, networking with the employees was possible throughout, particularly during the work shadowing rotations.
All the employees were helpful and willing to answer any questions about activities they did outside of work such as sport.
Working for a week at RBS was a brilliant experience and I would whole-heartedly recommend it to a friend.
