The Role
The work was really interesting and I really felt like I was contributing to IBM as a company; not just getting coffee.
Everyone on the internship was really friendly, we got on really well and by the end of it I had a group of friends that I hope to remain in touch with for life.
Our manager was friendly and approachable. Through regular meeting with both him and mentors from the department there was always someone around to talk to if you needed it.
There was always something to be doing, but as we set our own goals for the 12 weeks I found myself easily motivated to get my work done. Also, since there were four teams in the placement, the competition between teams also helped to keep me motivated.
As a team of four we were pretty much left to do as much as we could with the time that we had, with plenty of help and support if we asked for it.
I developed a range of new skills during the internship. Both in the field of software engineering and in general life skills. The most notable was giving presentations as we had to give one almost every week.
The Company
I enjoyed every moment of the internship, my team worked together really well and learnt to resolve any disagreements quickly and effectively.
The Extreme Blue team was prompt at providing any information that I might need, all the way from the first assessment day, through to my last day at work.
I really felt that IBM believed in me as a person and gave me the opportunity to make a difference within the company.

Since I am on a four year course I won't know for sure if I have a job offer for another year, but if they offer me one then I will take it.
The Culture
All of the internship students stayed in the same accommodation, so we spent a lot of time together.
The accommodation was provided by IBM. The local supermarket was good and local pubs were reasonably priced.
There is little nightlife in Winchester, however Southampton isn't too far away if you want nightlife.
There were sports teams within the company that were very open interns going along.
