About You
Really enjoyable, a real insight into what different roles would involve and days full of activities
Felt really valued throughout; even employees very high up in the company were happy to chat and give advice to us without being at all patronising
There was a high staff to intern ratio which meant there was a high level of support before, during and throughout the insight
Lots of skills sessions. Perhaps not so helpful in my degree (unless I'm doing group work) but lots of helpful advice for self-improvement throughout the week that will definitely help in any internship or job in the future
The Company
Lots of things to do all day - we were never left sitting around not doing anything
Formal at times and professional, but what you'd expect from a bank. We were often in contact with the current graduate cohort which was a bit more relaxed
A large proportion of the week was skills sessions for individual and team skills - a lot of time went into this and it is clear that they want to invest all they can in the individual!
We two half-day work shadowing placements in different parts of the business over the week in teams with a grad which was really useful as we could have an insight into what they did exactly
I got a really good understanding of what the culture is like; Barclays are currently going through changes particularly in cultures and values, and it was really exciting to get involved in this transformation like all other employees would be doing at the time
Very useful, lots of skill sessions, team building and presentations. We had a good insight into grad roles within different parts of the business too, to see what was right for us and challenge any preconceptions we may have previously had
Everything Else
Reimbursed travel expenses and hotel accommodation for those living out of London
There were several networking opportunities with the grads and also other employees in the business
Lots of people to chat to from different areas of the firm and from grad to senior level
I found out about some sport, charity and community work opportunities but think there are many more besides these
A really good week not only in helping me decide what I want to do in the future but also in self-development
