About You
The insights positives were that I got on really well with some of the people, it was exciting to get an insight into Citi and some of the arranged networking events were really fun; albeit a little forced. However, as this was a shadowing placement in terms of enjoyment it massively varied depending on who you were shadowing. Some people would be really proactive at explaining things and speaking to you, others would be quieter and take more of a "look at my screen and ask questions if you don't understand anything" which is tricky when you don't understand the first thing!
Following on from the above, massively varied depending on who you were shadowing, however HR made a point continually of saying how competitive the program was and how Citi Quest is the best of the bunch.
When shadowing, I felt I had to be very proactive in terms of who I was shadowing and what questions I would ask. But again, it hugely varied depending who you were shadowing.
I have left with a full knowledge of what a particular sales and trading desk does, the products they offer, how the roles vary and what Citi is like as a company.
The Company
Well structured from a HR perspective, but it was very ad hoc when shadowing.
Really liked the people I was working with, some of the others on the programme and HR.
There was a teamwork exercise, however everyone just saw it more as a bit of a fun, rather than how you would take it at an assessment centre. There was also a tips presentation for both the interviews and networking events, and you learnt about the department in your shadowing.
You are shadowing so watching people working their full time.
You are shadowing for a whole week, seeing the people who work there and how they operate.
Varied depending who I was shadowing, would say most of my learning was from one four hour shadowing session out of the whole week's shadowing.
Everything Else
Accommodation was paid and within walking distance (really nice, most had a two-bedroom apartment in Canary Wharf to themselves!) then on top of this we had up to £10 a day for dinner (had to provide receipts) and lunch was paid for, and often there were events in the evening with food.
There was a speed networking event and boat cruise with people from all over the business as well as those you met on your shadowing placement and a key note senior speaker at the start.
There was a speed networking event and boat cruise which both attracted loads of people from all levels of seniority and departments, but they felt very forced and you knew were being assessed at all of them.
Not really, but it wasn't of too much interest.
Yes, there aren't many placements where you can shadow for the week.
