About You
I cannot fault my time with Ernst and Young. The HR team went all out to make us feel welcome with a boat trip and go-karting event. You get access to some very senior people from the day you start, the 3-day induction at the start is really fun, I got on well with all the other interns and when you start work, not only is your time very well structured rotating between projects, but you actually do real work from the word go - no learning activities etc.
There were only fourteen of us on the scheme and we were given real work from the very start.
Everyone we spoke to made a reference to the importance to ask questions when we don't understand something, which is very big within EY's culture.
I learnt advanced excel techniques such as vlookups as well as an insight into how such a large corporation functions and how the divisions fit together.
The Company
Very well structured, for your first three days you are in induction doing different exercises/ activities with HR. Then you move onto work, over the three weeks I rotated between three teams on different projects, one of which was on a client site. On top of this we had a go karting and boat cruise event.
Really got on with all the other people on the scheme and working at EY.
We did a variety of different exercises in induction and feedback is a very big culture within EY. We were responsible for getting the people we were working with to fill in feedback forms and needed a minimum of two by the end of the week. We would read these feedback forms and pass them to our counsellor and HR who'd both provide further feedback at the end of the internship.
You are working full-time on the job so get a grasp of what it would entail. You are also working in the office so can look to your seniors for a greater understanding.
You become part of project teams, meeting a wide range of individuals and how the operate. Everyone I met was so friendly and it is drilled into us not to be scared to ask questions.
You get to learn what exactly advisory is and how Ernst and Young is a company.
Everything Else
Paid £400 a week for three weeks and a £1000 completion bonus, travel to/ from London was reimbursed and our accommodation was paid for and within walking distance of the office (15 mins).
You are given a line manager who allocates your work, a buddy who is there for any questions and a counsellor who represents you in the business. You also meet a variety of people including partners on your work placement due to the hot-desk policy and there are a variety of speakers at induction.
Yes, we had a pizza-making evening, went go-karting and had a boat cruise at the end. All the interns also lived together.
Lots of the employees were present at our events.
Yes and I have done so.
