About You
I thought it fantastic event, great experience, well organised with lots of interaction with staff from all levels and service lines in the firm.
We were well looked after. It was evident a lot of time and money had been spent organising everything; our overnight stay and dinner were even paid for.
The main support and guidance received were in shape of how to apply for the SVS, interview tips and common pitfalls. There was also a short mock interview session, where the interviewer went through all the competencies and gave feedback on our answers.
Picked up some great skills I wont be forgetting in the near future. We were also given a sort of crash course in what all the different service lines do via case studies. This is not something many students do and would know how to tackle in real life situations/assessment centres.
The Company
Very well structured. There was a clear intention present throughout each day. We were briefed on the schedule for both days.
Upbeat. The staff/recruiters kept us enthusiastic throughout the days. All students were equally driven to get the most out of the insight. The new graduates who joined us for dinner were very friendly, keen to answer any of our queries and gave a good vibe about the office.
An established (famous) body language expert gave a talk on the importance of body language, how it is perceived etc. She also spoke about good networking techniques, how to make a good impression & personal branding. A lot of people found it interesting.
Definitely gave a good all around, positive impression of the firm. The speakers spoke to their roles, their day to day activities; opportunities available upon joining, secondments, travel, variety of work and their own highlights of working there.
Enormously. From the new grads who joined us at dinner to the partners who came to speak to us, they definitely build a good/friendly image of the company ethos. The new associates who joined us at dinner were very open, friendly, keen to answer any questions and generally spoke of their time at Deloitte, how it has helped them develop.
Very helpful. Upon beginning the event I already had a good idea of the different service lines, was intent on going for a specific one for the internship. However, through the course of the two days, the people I spoke to and the range of sessions helped me realise that I would be better suited for a different service line. It has also made me more intent now going to work at Deloitte.
Everything Else
Travel expenses were paid.
Had lots of interaction with staff from all levels throughout the two days, from new grads to partners. The case studies we did integrated working with current staff, who were keen to divulging as much info about their area as possible. At dinner, we also had several staff scattered throughout the tables. They were very friendly and open, really keen to help us with questions and gave tips on how to get past interviews.
There werent any specific networking/social sessions with other students attending. Dont think it was required. However, I did meet a great range of people throughout the two days, in between talks and at dinner/drinks.
We only heard of the 'Deloitte Day'. Was expecting to hear more of their community involvement, other than the olympics.
Valuable insight if you're a first year. you are also fast tracked for an interview for SVS before general dates open. Do it!
