About You
It was a great insight into Investment Banking, did exactly what it was designed for.
The analysis and work that I did was included in the team's projects, so for a five-day insight you can't get much more input than that. Felt very welcome.
I was sat next to my Line Manager and I was assigned a Buddy - both of these would check me regularly per day to see how I was and whether I had enough work. On top of this, I got on very well with some of the newer analysts and they were always offering advice and giving me things to do.
Valuable skills learnt in working intensely, in managing time, in juggling multiple projects, and in having a extra-critical eye for detail.
The Company
Unlike other 'Insight Programs' this was more work experience, but the parts of the Scheme that were structured were very well done.
Very enjoyable and friendly atmosphere throughout, irrespective of what the time was or how busy people were.
I was allowed to attend all the same training sessions as the Analysts and the company invested a great deal of time in letting their staff take time out of their days to act as buddies and line managers and so on.
It gave me a comprehensive idea of what life and work in Investment Banking would [or will?] be like when moving onto a Summer or Graduate role.
Certainly gave a good insight in terms of the atmosphere and the people and the general feel. Very easy to gauge staying with the same team for an extended period.
I've gone from knowing that IBD was something I was interested in, to being something that I'm actively set on as a career.
Everything Else
I was only there for a few days, having all expenses covered is more than one can expect.
There were two networking events throughout the week, as well as my Analysts introducing me to other IBD teams throughout the week.
As above, there were two social events and this was about right given that everybody was quite busy throughout the week.
Yes - people maintain a variety of interests, be them sporting or musical or going on team holidays.
No doubt - if you have an idea which business area you're interested in, Citi Quest is one of the best Spring Programs out there.
