The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement with Baxter and would highly recommend it to prospective marketers. My experience was incredibly rewarding and I believe I’m going back to university better equipped for my final year.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. No one takes you for granted and there is plenty of appreciation for the hard work you put in.
My manager along with other members of the team, were always available to support and guide me through the challenges I faced. I never felt however that my manager was over my shoulder the entire time. You are a valued and trusted member of the team and it is your responsibility to ensure all work is completed on time. From a learning perspective, I believe this level of support and guidance is far superior.
Whilst there are elements of day to day work that must be kept on top off, new jobs will be given to you on a regular basis. There were times when I felt a little swamped under the workload and others when I could concentrate on university projects. An important skill you will learn at Baxter is time management and work prioritisation.
One of the leading factors in my recommendation of Baxter to other placement students is the level of responsibility you’ll be given. You are a trusted member of the team and your fellow employees will count on you to work hard and to the best of your ability. The account managers will rely on you to create marketing materials that they themselves will be using with customers. It’s incredibly rewarding to see marketing materials you created come into fruition.
If you are proactive and wish to develop your skills during your placement, Baxter will invest in you. I expressed my interest in sales after uni and Baxter sent me on a 3 day certified SPIN course. I also undertook training to develop my presentation skills which I’m sure will come in handy during my final year at university.
The Company
The general atmosphere is always positive. Everybody is friendly and will make time for a quick conversation (including the General Manager and BUD's).
No complaints. I had regular meetings with HR to ensure everything was going well on my placement. They also ask for feedback to further improve for future students.
As previously mentioned, Baxter are extremely willing to invest in you.

Promising but competitive. With 4 placement students and 1 graduate position, you must really perform in your year if you wish to secure the job.
The Culture
If you get on well with your fellow students then there is plenty of opportunity to go out in Reading, Oxford and Newbury. Good bars, clubs and restaurants.
Expect similar costs to that of university.
Compton is a small village in the countryside. Very beautiful area and easy to access. Although the nightlife is non-existent, I would gladly swap the London commute for an easy drive into work.
The social committee run a number of activities throughout the year. Golf tournaments and fishing appealed to me personally.
