About You
The open day was a very good introduction into commercial law. We received talks from many different members of staff and had good opportunities to talk with trainees about commercial law.
The day was firmly focused around you therefore you felt very valued as it seemed they were trying to attract you to the firm realising the potential was there for future associates.
As much as possible on an open day. The support was good in the workshops but apart from that it was a day to ask questions and meet employees.
Open days are difficult to give you transferable skills. But it has pressed me to work hard so that I can achieve a career in commercial law in the city.
The Company
The events were run perfectly and the talks, workshops and tours ran seamlessly and on time.
It was a fun relaxed day where you and your colleagues were encouraged to ask many questions and to get a feel and insight into Mayer Brown and a career in commercial law.
We were given everything we needed on the open day, including a delicious lunch. We were given talks from partners, associates and trainees who took time out of their day to do.
Through questioning the trainees and partners I was given a good insight into a full time role with the company. Reinforcing the typical work hard play hard lawyer stereotype!
It gave me a great insight into the company's culture in portraying it as a nice supportive place to work which would nurture your talent into the best lawyer that you could be.
This day reinforced my desire to become a city lawyer due to the happiness felt in all quarters of the law firm. And the type of clients the firm boasted of, alongside the client/international secondments you could undertake!
Everything Else
Reimbursed travel expenses for my trip to London and back.
We had a lunch and tour of the office whereby you could chat to graduate recruitment, partners, associates and trainees about anything!
The lunch was very nice, learning the skill of eating standing up with one hand! Plenty of time to ask questions and get a feel into the culture of the firm.
There was a presentation by a trainee on the things they can do outside of work. Such as football, netball, rugby, cricket etc and plenty of social events to do and cultural talks during the day.
Very good insight into commercial law with Mayer Brown and plenty of opportunities to find out about the work of city lawyers and the work Mayer Brown does. Also boasts decent views across London in their office!
