About You
Particularly enjoyed the trip to the Shard as well as the opportunity to mix with partners afterwards.
Both partners and trainees were happy to answer questions and engage with us.
Good focus on the application process for vacation schemes/training contracts including a review of each element of the assessment day.
Provided a good overview of the work and operation of a city law firm, as well as some practical negotiating experience.
The Company
Opportunities to engage with trainees and lawyers from a wide range of departments around the firm.
Generally very friendly, with trainees in particular being very welcoming and helpful in sharing their experiences with applications and their current work.
The placement was short, but the firm discussed key skills we could develop while at university.
Good opportunity to talk with trainees about work life balance, as well as the general office atmosphere.
Again the chance to talk current lawyers at the firm and their experiences helped give an impression of the sort of people the firm looks for and the firms view on presenteeism etc. (the firm doesn't require it!)
Confirmed my previous interest in becoming city lawyer.
Everything Else
Overnight hotel accommodation in central London was provided.
Frequent chances to talk with partners, associates and trainees. In particular the shadowing of a trainee provided a longer opportunity to (briefly) work with and network with a current employee.
Trip to the shard was a highlight of the workshop.
Discussion of pro-bono opportunities as well as various inter-firm clubs and sports teams.
Placement was accessible to both law and non-law students providing a good overview of the work and mechanics of a large city law firm.
