About You
I found the insight very enjoyable we were given talks on a wide array of commercial law from shipping law to finance. I also met trainees, associates and partners from the firm and had a fantastic lunch there!
The day was firmly centred around the group and the focus was firmly on you, they made you feel very involved with the firm.
There was limited opportunity to be given support as the day consisted mainly of talks about the firm and the typical work that occurs in the firm. Support was good when it was needed.
Limited availability to gain skills from the day. However it has pushed me to work hard in my degree to pursue a career as a city lawyer and it also developed networking skills.
The Company
The day was perfectly structured with activities filling up the entire day and running smoothly. From presentations, workshops and application advice.
The day was fun, relaxed and informative, although the talks about the practice areas may have been slightly too long with some trainees running out of things to talk about with their practice area.
They invested many employees time and effort to talk to us about the firm and their departments. They also provided a fantastic hot lunch but apart from that it was difficult for them to invest anymore in a one day insight scheme.
Through speaking with current trainees in depth I was given a strong insight into having a full time job with the firm. I also heard from graduate recruitment and current partners of the firm as to the type of work I would do on a daily basis.
The insight scheme gave me a huge insight into the company's culture, through speaking with employees and seeing the lawyers in the office gave a strong insight into the community feel and collegiate attitude in the office.
The day was very helpful in deciding my future career path as I received talks on many practice areas; shipping & maritime law, corporate law, finance law and disputes. It also set my eyes on Stephenson Harwood as the culture of the firm made me want to work there.
Everything Else
Reimbursed all travel expenses.
There was a very good networking lunch throughout the day which was attended very well by trainees, associates, partners and graduate recruitment.
The day was rather limited in networking opportunities as it was only one day. However the lunch was a good networking opportunity during the day.
We had a part of a presentation from graduate recruitment on things that employees get up to during the day such as sporting, cultural and social events. Additionally talking to trainees gave an insight into things people do outside of work.
I would recommend this insight to a friend as it is a very good way to find out about law in the city, a wide array of practice areas and how employees feel about working in the city as a commercial lawyer.
