The Role
Really enjoyed the placement. I was made to feel welcome from the first day and treated as a real employee.
Was made very welcome by the team who were very easy to talk to and approachable.
I was given goals at my reviews that challenged me and kept me interested in the areas I was working on. I felt I was pushed to do my best and to enjoy it at the same time.
I was generally occupied throughout the day, occasionally I had to work late but it was enjoyable and not too much of a strain
I was given plenty of responsibility including working with senior team members in the US on working on testing specific areas of the system. I really enjoyed being able to be accountable for the credit and responsibility of a task
I received great encouragement to take part in additional training for MCTS and MCAS exams as well as to take part in other skills and activities. I have learned a lot from my placement in working in a larger team and plan to take these skills on to future jobs.
The Company
The atmosphere was very relaxed, there was no formal dress code aside from the casual side of smart. Everyone worked in an open plan office and there was nothing to stop you from chatting to someone else about the work if you had any questions.
The internship was very well organised and I didn't notice any issues
I was provided with plenty of opportunities to improve my skills and abilities which were paid for by Microsoft including professional exams for MCTS qualifications and the materials for learning this.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
International Travel
I hope to be able to be employed again by Microsoft either within the same team or in a similar area.
The Culture
A lot of the students would take part in the sports teams and social clubs as well as going for group meals etc.
Area was more expensive than expected, but it was still possibly to socialise reasonably cheaply.
Not many clubs in Reading that were my kind of music, but the bars were ok as were the pubs for a quite drink.
There were lots of activities including voluntary work that were organised by employees that could be done outside of work.
