    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Constant demand for work, which is great as it allows me to enhance time keeping skills. Sometimes, I am expected to work outside working hours, but this is allways acknowldged.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I get treated almost like graduate engineering, my colleagues also realise that i'm also in university and have no arguements about university work being my priority. I have been given a project to draw and design which took me approximately 5 months.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The work I've completed with my company has been beneficial with my degree as I can ask colleagues for help on coursework. As for training, a course was completed as soon as i arrived at the company which is compulsary for all new employees. This course shows what to expect on a construction site. This will be of help to me everytime I enter a construction site. I have attended many other training courses, such as first aid, Construction Design and Management: Duties of a designer, and Practice for working on motorways and trunk roads.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone is busy so it can be quiet some days. But everyone says hello and are not afraid to have a joke!! This makes it a much easier place to work.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My course administrator organised everything and I was having interviews as soon as possible. I have review meetings ever year to see how well it's going. Any problems are discussed in this meeting and normally resolved.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In my review meetings with work, I was told to attend as many training courses as possible. Therefore, my company are willing to pay for all the courses I attend. They also pay for any educational visits I have to attend with university.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Everyone seems happy with the work I have produced for them. I have another 2.5 years remaining on my course, so if I continue completing work to the correct standard and on time then I believe I have a good chance. I was told in my interview that my company would not invest all this money on me and then let me go at the end of my 5 years period. I believe this means they use my course to develop engineers for future employment.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Every year, offices from around the UK attend an annual company sports day. There are also weekly football and touch rugby meetings which is great fun. A night out in cardiff is a regualar, with the company paying for the first drink. Depending on what the employees want to use the sports and social money for. An annual christmas party is also held.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I don't live in Cardiff, but the prices seem to be the same as anywhere else.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It is very good as there are plenty of places to go and they are quite close to each other.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was girls netball teams and boys football teams which everyone was invited to join in - I'm just not a very sporty person so never joined!

    4/5
